S.W.I.F.T. Annual Meeting

Well, a little bit ago I got back from my first Indiana statewide guild meeting. Not a huge crowd, but it was fun. This is Sue Markle, the Chairwoman of SWIFT. At the moment she isn't addressing the group, but she talked and spun at the same time as the group knitted or spun or whatever. That is the way to have a meeting! I took my daughter, Natalie with me (and the bunny) and with her picking the numbers for the door prize, I won! Wouldn't you know it was the first one she pulled out of the box! Great job! I won 4.7 oz of dyed Romney. This makes for a good prize winning week. Monday I got a phone call from the park where we spent last Saturday at the annual Maple fest. I won a small bottle of maple syrup, some maple popcorn, and some maple candy. Do you think I should buy a lottery ticket? Nah, I would rather not be tempted!

I finished plying and dyeing the needed yellow yarn to work on my backpack some more. I got a package from KnitPicks and I want to finish that project before I start on something new that is as involved as the dress and sweater pattern I ordered. I didn't purchase enough the first time so I had to reorder as soon as I opened the box. The site didn't have the yarn requirements stated so I had to guess. I'm not too good at that. This time I got enough to make a pair of socks for my 5yo (and maybe me) to go along with it.

Using my yarn!

I have been trying to spin with a wheel for about 2 months, but I hadn't used any of the yarn yet. I decided to attempt an entry for the Knitting Olympics but I didn't make it official and I didn't get it finished. I am still working on it though because it is turning out to be cute. I got the pattern from the book "Domino Knitting" by Vivian Hoxbro. I made it one more diamond wider and I will probably try to felt it down a bit. I ran out of yellow so I am frantically spinning more tonite so I can stick it in the dye pot tomorrow. I am not too inventive with my dyeing, but I am branching out and using Food Coloring instead of Kool-Aid! Aren't I just moving up in the world?

I am still carless but that may change soon. Our mechanic has a Mazda 626 for sale for a good price so I am hoping it will work out. Never fear though, I rent a car on the odd weekend and take off! One of my daughters and I will be going to the annual meeting of SWIFT, Indiana's fiber guild. I have been going to IFF or Indiana Fiber Friends guild and I really enjoy it. One of the members sold us the above pictured Angora rabbit a couple weeks ago. I will try to post some pictures of the goings on when we get back.
